A Kind Of Guise New Store Opening in Munich
Three years after the brand’s first project, A Kind of Guise has finally opened its first brick and mortar retail outlet in Munich, Germany. An extension of the brand’s online store, the new store’s design is stark with white walls and exposed concrete and wood flooring with the emphasis placed on the clothes presented throughout the space. To celebrate the opening, a selection of limited-edition products will be made available in-store alongside the brand’s full range of products. In addition to the brand’s own products, a curated selection of items from brands such as Poler Camping Stuff, Peter Jensen and Kiki Dieterle will also be available.

Hypebeast Essentials: Yasar Ceviker of A Kind Of Guise

Our boy Yasar from AKOG displays his current essentials via Hypebeast.
“Yasar Ceviker, co-founder and designer of A Kind of Guise (AKOG), has quietly made a name for himself. In less than three years, Mr. Ceviker and his team have branched out substantially from selling only leather bags to diversifying into clothing. The Munich-based brand’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection has been appropriately titled “The Carpathian Season” – based off the Central European mountain range that is also a political and cultural junction of several countries and ethnicities. Citing his own personal influence from nature and the environment, AKOG has developed itself as a lifestyle brand while maintaining a strong focus on materials and craftsmanship. For instance, Mr. Ceviker extols the hand-knitted carpets he obtained from the Middle East dating from the 19th century that he has used to create a limited collection of bags under AKOG’s Kilim Project line. In this exclusive, Mr. Ceviker shares with us his lifestyle essentials and, thus, his influences. With a diverse blend of the classic (Pentax MV1) and the modern (Apple products), the depth (Buffalo 66) and simplicity (everything else), there is absolutely no discerning between AKOG and Mr. Ceviker himself”
Get To Know AKOG (A Kind of Guise)
An Open Store favourite for sure. AKOG (Germany) are best known for their unbelievable quality and eye for detail. The care, intricacies, materials, sourcing, production processes, preparation and general care that goes in to every item is displayed through their unique creations and philosophy. A Kind of Guise don’t make products on a large scale to a mass market as the soul and personality would be lost. Instead they prefer to produce a better product using higher quality materials by hand in lesser quantities. We think this a part of what makes their products that much more special. AKOG are real people doing amazing things and we are incredibly happy and privileged to be able to be part of their movement.
“While things happen on a larger scale these days, most of the influence we draw originates from our close surroundings. Our first collection consisted of bags made of leather leftovers from an old medicine ball factory in the north of Italy. Today the range of our collection has grown, but we still try to keep the whole production unique and, primarily, as local as possible. Hence we work closely together with only a few select German manufacturers, choosing from local material and always keeping an eye on functionality and quality.
The collections of A Kind Of Guise feature a mix of a wide variety of styles, putting effort into every piece’s uniqueness with a special focus on color and detail.
Most importantly, we want to create long-lasting products with original ideas and great quality. Each item’s wearability is as important to us as its integration into the collection as a whole”
